A Guide to Sinarades Village: What to Do and Whether to Stay

Sinarades is a good place to stay if you want a quiet, traditional Corfu village with the coast, Corfu Town and the main sights all within easy reach. It is not a village of big attractions. What it offers is calm, character and a very good position, which is why we chose it for our loft studio.

Where Sinarades is

Sinarades (Sinarádes) sits in west-central Corfu, a short way inland from the sea. It is a working village, not a holiday complex.

From here, approximately:

  • Agios Gordios beach is about 3 km away, around 10 minutes by car.
  • Kontogialos beach, below Pelekas, is about 3.5 km away.
  • Glyfada beach is about 5 km away.
  • Corfu Old Town is about 11 km away, roughly 20 minutes by car.
  • Corfu International Airport is about 8 km away.

The useful point is the spread. The beaches are on one side, Corfu Old Town on the other, and the airport is close enough that arrival and departure days stay short. Most of the places on this list are a short drive away, which is why a village base works better than the map first suggests.

A folk museum in the village

Entrance to the Folklore Museum of Central Corfu in Sinarades

The village has its own folklore museum, the Nikos Paktites Folk Museum. It is a good, small-scale way to understand the rural Corfu that existed before tourism, and it is the kind of place worth an unhurried visit. Opening times change, so check the current details before you set out.

Slow mornings, village walks

The rest of what to do in Sinarades is gentler:

  • Walk the lanes early, when the light is soft and the village is quiet.
  • Look at the traditional houses and the church, and take your time over it.
  • Have your coffee on your balcony instead of rushing out. If you stay with us, there is an espresso machine in the kitchen.
  • Ask us for current recommendations for food and drink nearby. We would rather give you up-to-date local tips than a list that goes out of date.

We would not pretend Sinarades has a long list of sights. It is a base and a place to slow down, and most of the island is a short drive away.

What to expect from village life

Sinarades is a place where people live and work, so expect quiet streets, church bells and an easy pace rather than a busy visitor scene. Evenings are calm. It is a village to settle into, not a place to tick off.

If you like to cook, a little planning helps. Pick up what you need on your way in, or ask us where is most convenient. Being a small place, it rewards a relaxed attitude: things happen at village speed, and that is part of the charm.

Using Sinarades as a base

This is where the village comes into its own. In a single week you could swim at Agios Gordios and the nearby beaches, watch the light fall from Kaiser’s Throne above Pelekas, spend a day in Corfu Old Town and visit the Achilleion Palace. If you prefer a longer list, see things to do near Agios Gordios beach.

When to visit

July and August are the busiest months on the island, with livelier beaches and a busier Old Town. The village itself stays calm. If you would like more space at the sights, spring and early autumn are generally quieter.

Whatever the month, early mornings and late afternoons are the comfortable times to be out. The middle of a summer day is better spent resting, and the loft has air conditioning for exactly that.

Getting around

A car makes everything easier, and there is free public parking a short walk from the loft. Without a car, green KTEL buses leave from the terminal on Eptanisou Avenue in Corfu Town. Route B14 serves Sinarades, and route B10 (Agios Gordios) calls at the village on some journeys. Tickets are roughly €1.50 to €5. Timetables change, so check the current one. Our Getting Here page has more.

So, is it a good place to stay?

If you want nightlife, a beach on your doorstep or a long list of shops, probably not. If you want a calm, authentic village, a central position and a peaceful night’s sleep, very much so. You can read more on our Village & Around page, and if you have a question we have not answered, our Contact & FAQ page is the place to ask.

The loft is a newly renovated studio for two, with a bedroom under a wooden ceiling, a full kitchen and your own small balcony. When you are ready, book direct for a lower price than on the big booking platforms. See our direct-booking offers.

Quick answers

Is Sinarades on the beach?

No. It is a short way inland. Agios Gordios, the nearest beach, is about 3 km away and around 10 minutes by car.

Can I visit without a car?

Yes, though a car makes life easier. Green KTEL buses and taxis are options, and the details are on our Getting Here page.

Is it a good base for families?

Our loft is made for two and has no cribs or extra beds, so we cannot offer it to families. The village is a good fit for couples who like a quiet pace.

Things to Do Near Agios Gordios Beach, Corfu

Near Agios Gordios you can swim at several beaches, watch the sunset from the viewpoint above Pelekas, visit the Achilleion Palace and spend a day in Corfu Old Town, all within about a 20 to 25 minute drive. The beach is a good start, but the area around it is better than any single stop.

We stay a few minutes inland, in Sinarades, about 3 km from Agios Gordios. Here is how we would plan a few days.

Beaches and views along the coast

View over Corfu from the Kaiser’s Throne in Pelekas

Agios Gordios itself is a long beach in a curved bay, about 10 minutes by car from the village. Close by are:

  • Kontogialos (Pelekas) beach, about 3.5 km from Sinarades.
  • Glyfada beach, about 5 km away.
  • Kaiser’s Throne, the viewpoint above Pelekas, about 4.5 km away, which is best near sunset. See our sunset guide.

A day in Corfu Old Town

Corfu Old Town is about 11 km from Sinarades, roughly 20 minutes by car, and it is UNESCO-listed. It is a day of narrow streets, squares, fortresses and long lunches. We have written a separate guide to a day trip to Corfu Old Town from the west coast.

Sights within reach

None of these needs a full day. You could combine the Achilleion and Kanoni in one outing, then go to the beach on the next.

Village life

Not everything needs to be a sight. Sinarades has its own folklore museum, the Nikos Paktites Folk Museum, and the lanes are pleasant to walk early in the morning. Check the museum’s current opening hours before you go. Our Village & Around page has more, and so does our guide to Sinarades.

A quiet morning in the village also makes a good counterweight to a busy sightseeing day. If you have been out in the sun and among crowds, an unhurried hour on the balcony does more for you than another stop.

A simple three-day plan

  • Day one: Settle in, then a late swim at Agios Gordios.
  • Day two: Morning at Kontogialos, a wander in Pelekas, and the sunset at Kaiser’s Throne.
  • Day three: The Achilleion Palace in the morning, then Kanoni and the old town in the afternoon, or a full day in the old town.

Spread the sights out. Corfu is better when you do not try to see it all at once.

Grouping places to save driving

Some places go together naturally. Kontogialos, Pelekas and Kaiser’s Throne are all part of one outing, so they suit a single day that ends with the sunset. The Achilleion and Kanoni are easy to combine in one morning, and the old town can follow in the afternoon.

Agios Gordios and Glyfada are your flexible days. They need no plan, so keep them for the mornings when you would rather not decide anything, or for the day after a long sightseeing one. Grouping this way means less time in the car and more at each stop.

When to go

July and August are the busiest months on the coast, and midday is the busiest time of day anywhere. Early starts make the sights calmer, and the late afternoon suits the beaches and viewpoints. Spring and early autumn are generally quieter if your dates are flexible.

Getting around

A car is the easiest way to link all this up, and there is free public parking a short walk from the loft. Green KTEL buses also run from the terminal on Eptanisou Avenue in Corfu Town, and route B10 (Agios Gordios) calls at Sinarades on some journeys. Check current timetables on the day. Our Getting Here page has more detail.
